Welcome to the wacky world of curling that is Pollok Curling Club Eastwood Rosebowl round 1!
On Tuesday night we knew that we were struggling to get 4 full teams out for the first round of the Rosebowl. Rink 1 was particularly hard hit with both Brown McMaster and Alan Sloan missing. This meant that it looked like we would have 2 matches where a team of 3 were playing a team of 4. To avoid this, an executive decision was made and the first round matches were re-drawn so that we had 1 match between the 2 fourman teams and the other match between the 2 threeman teams.
On the evening itself a combination of work commitments and traffic problems added to our issues and resulted in us taking to the ice 15 minutes late with each of the fourman teams a man down and 1 of the threeman teams also a man down. So 3 versus 3 and 3 versus 2! Sweeping was at a premium.
The 3 missing players turned up after a wee while and resulted in 2 very close games.
Rink 2, skipped by Lindsay Dempster (subbing for Maurice Paterson) peeled with Rink 4 skipped by Alastair Robertson - 4 shots apiece after 6 ends. Skips stones followed with Alastair Robertson proving victorious.
In the Threeman teams match they opted to play 6 stones per end and the match finished after the 10th end with Rink 1 (skipped by Richard Morris) winning 10 shots to 9 over Rink 3 (skipped by Andy Whyte).
Next week the second round will by played as follows:
Rink 1 versus Rink 5
Rink 4 versus Rink 6
The teams are as follows:
Rink 1: Andy Whyte (subbing for Brown McMaster), Paul Carnan (subbing for Richard Morris), Gib Steele, Graham Wintersgill (subbing for Alan Sloan)
Rink 4: Alastair Robertson, Stewart Boyle, Gordon Anderson, George Leslie
Rink 5: Lindsay Dempster, Brian Anderson, Gavin Smith, Nigel McMillan
Rink 6: Stuart Orr, Douglas Mack, Graeme Sutherland, Gordon McQuilkin
