Grand Match at Carsebreck, ice rough for the first half W Cowan lost 14 – 26 , W Graham won by 3 shots 28th January 1926: Glasgow Province v Canadians on Edinburgh Ice Rink “Pollok rinks Messrs Pickwell, McLellan, McDonald and Cowan had an uphill game but very pleasant all through. Our opponents scored 18 shots before we gained a point; 16 ends played, both scored 8 ends, although they had 23 shots to our 10. Province lost by 42 shots” Inter Province played on Edinburgh Ice Rink Graham, Stark, Stevenson, McLellan 5 shots up. The Secretary read a Circular from Mr Gourlay re Syndicate having bought Ice Rink Crossmyloof with the intention of forming an up-to-date ice rink. 14th Jany 1928 R.C.C.C. At the end of December and the first week in January we had good ice on the Pond, but very few of the Members took advantage of same. The Grand Match was postponed after the competitors had spent one hour on the bank. 11th Jany 1929: Waldie Griffith Competition, Edinburgh Ice Rink. Pollok rink Duncanson, Copland, Stevenson and McLellan (Skip). Both the Pollok Rink and the Province were up. 29th Jany 1929: Grand Match, Carsebreck. Pollok – Stevenson, McLellan, Jack Pickwell, E Pickwell 3 Up Pollok – Copland , Dickson, Macleod, Fleming 1 Down 19th April 1929: Glasgow Province Bonspiel, Ice Rink Crossmyloof, Pollok No. 1 (McLellan) v Carmunnock & Rutherglen No. 3 - 9 shots Up Pollok No. 2 (Copland) v Campsie Glen No. 1 - 16shots Up Pollok won the SirJohn Watson Challenge Trophy with an average of 12and a half shots per Rink. The Ice cost was 12/- per Rink (60p today) Record of other Glasgow Province Bonspiel successes: 1907-08 4th prize of Curling Stones and handles. Skips Messrs Heron and Stevenson 42 shots to 23, and average per Rink of9 and a half. March 1912 1st Prize , the Sir John Watson Challenge Trophy, and Gold Medals to the Members of the Highest Up Rink. Skips W Cowan (15 Up) and W. Morton (20 Up). Jany 1933 – Waldie Griffiths v North & South Esk Province at Crossmyloof. Unfortunately, the game was marred by a freshening breeze springing up and making the ice very ‘dour’. |
