6. CLUB & OTHER BONSPIELS
The Club currently holds three Bonspiels during the season. These Bonspiels are in the main restricted to Club members, but it has been known over the years for one or two ‘guests’ and prospective future members to be invited to participate, or to ‘make up an even number of rinks. Details of the history and outcomes of these Club Bonspiels are dealt with in separate chapters.
Both Cathcart Castle and Giffnock Curling Clubs hold annual invitational Bonspiels and Pollok Curling Club is delighted to be invited each year to these Bonspiels.
Cathcart Castle Curling Club Invitational Bonspiel
Pollok Curling Club's rink for these invitational Bonspiels is usually made up with current Committee members. There has been a long-standing relationship with the Cathcart Castle Curling Club and Pollok is invited to send a team to participate each year.
The only mention given in particular reference to this Bonspiel is that in 2011, Pollok won the event.
Giffnock Curling Club Invitational Bonspiel:
On Giffnock Curling Club's 60th Anniversary in 1990 they decided to hold an invitational bonspiel and make it an annual event. Six clubs with whom Giffnock Curling Club had close relationships were invited to take part. This included Pollok Curling Club. The winning guest Club is awarded the Wilson James Stone - a most attractive glass curling stone presented by Wilson James, a Past President of Giffnock Curling Club.
Pollok Curling Club won the event in 2010 when the rink consisted of Bruce Mitchell (President), Grant MacGregor (Vice President), Gib Steele (Match Secretary), and Alan Thomson (Former Secretary/Treasurer).
Crossmyloof Curling Club Invitational Centenary Bonspiel
The Club also participated in the Crossmyloof Curling Club Invitational Centenary Bonspiel as one of eight guest club rinks competing for the Orr Centenary Quaich. No mention of a win – it is the taking part that counts!
