Stuart Trophy Final Results
The final games in the Stuart Trophy were fraught with issues of players' availability. With the Semi final match against XX Club being played at the same time at the same venue we were 7 players down - 4 representing Pollok and 3 representing XX Club. With this handicap a certain amount of leeway had to be given and in the 2 games, on which relegation and promotion depended, the results were as follows: Cockburn (The Champions) peeled 6 shots apiece with John Henderson's rink who, in John's absence, were skipped by Gib Steele. In the other game Gordon Deakin got out his sickbed to ensure his team were not penalised by 3 shots and valiantly played 2 ends before retiring hurt. However it was to no avail with his team going down by 8 shots to 5 to the resurgent Ian Taylor's rink - skipped by Nigel McMillan in Ian's absence. The final table therefore is below with Promotion for Cockburn's and Sloan's teams, Demotion for J Henderson's and Deakin's teams and the status quo for Team Taylor.
Stuart Trophy penultimate week's results
Last night's game results throws up some intriguing possibilities for the final table. Team Taylor who, if you remember, started each of their early games very well and then faded, beat the League winners Team Cockburn by 9 stones to 4 to record their 2nd win on the bounce. In the other game Team Sloan beat Team J Henderson by 8 stones to 3.
The result of all this is that 3 teams are now vying for the 2 "relegation" slots. With Henderson, Taylor and Deakin all playing next week in the final round any 2 from these three could face the drop depending on how the games go. Could be an interesting evening.

Cockburn wins The Stuart Trophy
With 2 weeks left in the Stuart, Team Cockburn is now in an unassailable position. Last night's results with Taylor notching up his first win by beating John Henderson's rink by 9 shots to 3 means that John, with only 1 game left to play, now can't catch Team Cockburn. This means that Alistair has skipped to victory in both the Cameron Medal and Stuart so a clean sweep in the leagues. Congratulations to him and his team of Douglas Harvie, Gordon McIntosh and Maurice Paterson.
However there is still the other places to play for and things are quite tight. With promotion and relegation at stake there is still much to play for - not least pride.
In the other game last night Sloan beat Deakin by 8 shots to 3.

Stuart Trophy Round 7
In the latest round of the Stuart Trophy Team Cockburn cemented his position at the top of the table with a decisive win over Deakin - 10 shots to 5. This gives the Cockburn team a 5 point lead in the table although John Henderson's team have a game in hand.
In the other game Team Sloan managed to ease a victory over Team Taylor 9 shots to 7.

Stuart Trophy Round 6
I'm grateful to Alan Sloan for this week's commentary. "Two convincing wins for Messrs Deakin and Cockburn. In the match between Deakin and Henderson (J) the late arrival of John - combining a 5.30 start with a delayed business meeting ended up with Stuart Boyle taking the head until John arrived, resulting in an early lead for the Deakin rink which they were never to hand back, running out 9-4 winners. In the other match an early first end steal of 1 proved to be the only score for the Sloan rink, with two subs in the 2nd and 3rd slots as Alistair Cockburn and his rink hardly put a foot wrong in terms of tactics and stone placements. This resulted in quite a few 'Hail Marys' with last stone as the Sloan rink tried to rescue something from an otherwise bleak evening. The final score of 8-1 was a fair reflection on how the two teams played."
Stuart Trophy reaches the halfway point.
The 2 matches played last night has meant that we have now reached the halfway point in this competition - and it's still all to play for. Both matches resulted in 7 shots to 5 victories for Deakin (v Taylor) and Cockburn (v J Henderson). Cockburn's rink overcame a 3 shot penalty to take control of their match early on holding on to claim victory and the lead in the table at halfway.
In the bottom of the table clash suggestions that Gordon Deakin should submit to a drug test were heard as he played some excellent shots to overcome Ian Taylor's rink. Even the fact that he was playing in a match with a full complement of 8 players (an unusual experience for Gordon) didn't seem to phase him!

Stuart Trophy - Round 4
In the top of the table clash John Henderson's rink managed to overcome a 3 shot penalty and came out on top against Alan Sloan's rink by 8 shots to 6. In the other match Ian Taylor's rink didn't manage to get off to their usual fast start and as a result were always chasing the game - finally going down by 11 shots to 7 to Alistair Cockburn's rink who, as a result, move into 2nd place in the league 1 point behind John Henderson.
Stuart Trophy - Round 3
Ian Taylor's team got off to another flyer going 4 shots up after 2 ends - but again faltered against John Henderson's rink and they were peeled at 5 shots apiece as they went into the final end. John Henderson's team scored a 3 to snatch victory at the last gasp. 8 shots to 5 for John Henderson.
In the other game it was a topsy turvy affair with Alan Sloan taking an early 5 shots to 1 lead after 3 ends. However, Gordon Deakin pulled things back to go into the last end 7 shots to 5 up. However, it's not over until it's over, and Alan Sloan's team scored a 4 at the final end to win 9 shots to 7.

Stuart Trophy - Round 2 results
In the second round of the Stuart Trophy we had a peeled game and a win for Cockburn. In the Deakin/Cockburn encounter the game finished 6 shots to 5 for Deakin but as they were a man short Cockburn ran out winners by 8 shots to 5 with penalties. In the Taylor/Sloan match, Taylor got off to a flyer and was 6 shots to nil up after 2 ends. However Sloan's rink fought back and got 2 3 enders themselves to take the lead by 1 shot going into the final end. The final result was peeled. Results were as follows:
Cockburn beat Deakin by 8 shots to 6 (after Cockburn awarded 3 shots for a no-show)
Taylor and Sloan peeled - 8 shots apiece.
Cockburn beat Deakin by 8 shots to 6 (after Cockburn awarded 3 shots for a no-show)
Taylor and Sloan peeled - 8 shots apiece.
Stuart Trophy up and running
The Stuart Trophy commence on Tuesday 9th January and J Henderson's rink took an early lead by winning their game while the other game peeled. A long way to go but John has put down his marker and is the man to catch.
Scores: Rink 2 (J Henderson) 5 Rink 5 (Deakin) 3

Cameron Medal Final Results
Cockburn, Taylor, Harvie and Boyle were crowned Cameron Medal winners 2017 when A Sloan's rink were beaten by J Henderson's rink 11 shots to 3 in the last evening of the competition. Congratulations to them all.
In the "bottom of the table " clash McMillan's rink beat A Henderson's rink by 11 shots to 2 thereby avoiding relegation! The final table follows.

Cameron Medal goes to final week
The final games in the Cameron - scheduled for next Tuesday 12th December, will determine who wins the Cameron Medal and who is "demoted". In last night's games J Henderson and McMillan peeled with 7 points each while Cockburn won his final game against A Henderson 8 shots to 4 but he left it very late in a tight game by winning 5 shots in the final end.
The table follows and the final result is still open. If Sloan beats J Henderson next week then Sloan wins the Cameron. Any other result means that Cockburn wins the medal. At the other end of the table McMillan and A Henderson meet and to avoid being the "Strongman" of the league A Henderson's rink has to win by 5 shots - a 4 shot win would tie them on points and shot difference. All to play for.

Cameron Medal - Enters Final Stages
In Tuesday's matches Sloan and McMillan peeled - 8 shots apiece. Cockburn beat J Henderson by 7 shots to 3. This makes the table interesting reading with 3 teams (Sloan, Cockburn and J Henderson) still in with a chance to win the coveted Cameron medal. At the foot of the table 3 teams are still in line for demotion (J Henderson, McMillan and A Henderson). the final 2 weeks matches could be very interesting and I detail them at the foot of the current league standings which follows:
Cameron Medal Tightens Up
Things have tightened up in the Cameron with only 2 points between all the teams. In the Top v Bottom clash between Sloan and Cockburn the bottom rink proved victorious by 11 shots to 6. In the battle of the Hendersons John's team won by 9 shots to 2. The early leader, McMillan, is now on 4 points along with the pack but has a game in hand. The league standings after Tuesday's games are as follows:
Cameron Medal - Half Way Point Reached
The Cameron has now reached the halfway point with all teams having played each other once - and things could not be tighter. The results of Tuesday's matches were as follows:
Sloan bt J Henderson by 8 shots to 7
A Henderson bt McMillan by 10 shots to 4
Sloan bt J Henderson by 8 shots to 7
A Henderson bt McMillan by 10 shots to 4
Cameron Medal - Round 4
The Cameron medal is proving very tight this year so far. With the only unbeaten side (McMillan's Rink) losing on Tuesday there are now 3 teams on 4 points with the other 2 teams on 2 points. This coming week completes the first half of the competition and its still wide open with everything to play for - not least of which is the promotion and demotion of playing positions for the Stuart Trophy which we play for in the New Year.
Tuesday's results were: J Henderson beat Cockburn by 11 shots to 5 and Sloan beat McMillan by 8 shots to 6. Full table follows.
Tuesday's results were: J Henderson beat Cockburn by 11 shots to 5 and Sloan beat McMillan by 8 shots to 6. Full table follows.
Cameron Medal - Round 3
In the third round of Cameron Medal matches A Henderson's rink overcame a 3 shot penalty to gain their first points and put them in the mix. Nigel led his team to their 2nd win and remain the only team who are unbeaten. The scores were:
Team 5 (A Henderson) beat Team 1 (Sloan) 9 shots to 7
Team 3 (McMillan) beat Team 4 (Cockburn) 7 shots to 3
Team 5 (A Henderson) beat Team 1 (Sloan) 9 shots to 7
Team 3 (McMillan) beat Team 4 (Cockburn) 7 shots to 3
Cameron Medal - 2nd Round
In the 2nd week of the Cameron, subs were to the fore - with 5 subs playing out of 14 curlers. The 2 players who were unable to get subs were from opposing sides and therefore the game played between Teams 5 and 4 was 3 aside. As a result, penalties cancelled out. In the event Team 4 (Cockburn) beat Team 5 (A Henderson) by 10 shots to 4. In the other game Team 3 (McMillan) narrowly won by 7 shots to 6 against Team 2 (J henderson). The League Table follows.
2017 Cameron Medal Kicks Off
In the opening games of the Cameron medal the battle of the Henderson's was won by John by 7 shots to 3. In the other game Anderson (G), who was skipping while Alan Sloan suns himself in the Canary Islands, led his team to a 6 shot to 4 victory over Alistair Cockburn.
2017 Eastwood Rosebowl - Preliminary Round
The Eastwood Rosebowl got off to an early start this year because of our ice allocation and the prelim round was played the day after the Opening Bonspiel. Unfortunately Stuart Orr had sustained a rather nasty injury following a heavy fall and will be unable to curl for some time while he recovers. His team, a man down, were therfore 3 shots adrift before the first stone was thrown. However, they managed to overcome this and came out victors in a high scoring game 14 shots to 9. His team now go on to play Team 5 (Skip: Stewart Boyle) in the semi final on Wednesday 18th October at Greenacres.
Stuart Trophy - Final Standings
No surprises in the last games in the Stuart Trophy. Henderson's Heaters beat Wintersgill's Winter Warmers by 10 shots to 2 while Sloan's Snowmen were beaten by Cockburn's Cold Snappers by 10 shots to 6. These results mean that the Winter Warmers slip to 4th place with the Cold Snappers finishing 3rd.
Stuart Trophy - No Change
In the penultimate week's matches in the Stuart the scores resulted in no change in the league table positions. However, there was a shock as Henderson's "Heaters" went cold and were beaten by 9 shots to 4 by Cockburn's "Cold Snappers". Too little too late as they say. In the other match Sloan's "Snowmen" ran out of ends again and went down by 7 shots to 5 with McMillan's "Mufflers" prevailing.
Stuart Trophy - They say it's all over - it is now!
In the matches on 28th February a "no show" gave Sloan's "Snowmen" an early 3 shot lead over Henderson's "Heaters". However, it wasn't enough to prevent the "Heaters" racing to 11 shots after 4 ends but that was not the end of the matter. The "Snowmen" came back with a flurry winning the next 3 ends and, by my reckoning" would have won the match had another 4 ends been played! Final result 11 shots to 7 for the "Heaters".
In the other game Wintersgill's "Winter Warmers" recovered from their poor showing last week by beating McMillan's "Mufflers" by 6 shots to 3. These result mean that with 2 weeks to go Henderson's "Heaters" can't be caught and are therefore crowned Stuart Trophy winners. Congratulations to them. Table follows.

Stuart Trophy Latest
In tonight's games the "Heaters" were hot while the "Mufflers were muffled! The "Winter Warmers" were very cold while the "Cold Snappers" had a warm front! In the top of the table clash the game swung one way with The Mufflers taking an early 7 shots to nil lead after 2 ends only to lose the next 5 ends - finally going down 12 shots to 7. In the other game the Winter Warmers failed to score at all with the Cold Snappers running home with 8 shots to nil. So Henderson's Heaters have now got a 2 point lead in the table and a game in hand over McMillan's Mufflers.
Stuart Trophy race hots up
We are now past the halfway stage having played for 6 weeks with 4 weeks left in the season. Positions in the league are unchanged from a couple of weeks ago but Henderson's Heaters who are tied for the lead with McMillan's Mufflers have a game in hand. Next week's games could have a profound effect on where the trophy ends up with the leaders playing each other in what could be a title decider.
Stuart Trophy Round 4
In last night's matches there were wins for Henderson's Heaters and McMillan's Mufflers.
The Heaters beat the The Cold Snappers 4 shots to 3
the Mufflers beat the Snowmen 7 shots to 2
League table follows:

2 very one sided games tonight.
Henderson's "Heaters" beat Sloan's "Snowmen" 16 shots to 1
McMillan's " Mufflers" beat Wintersgill's "Winter Warmers" 15 shots to nil
Both losing teams were minus a player and thus were penalised 3 shots - not that this made much difference!
The league is now split in 2 distict parts with 3 teams on 4 points with the other 2 yet to score.

Henderson's "Hogliners" beat Wintersgill's "Warriors" 8 shots to 5 while Henderson's "Hotshots" beat Sloan's "Sliders" by 8 shots to 6. The "Hotshots" thus become 2016 Cameron Medal winners by 2 points.

Cameron Medal penultimate week
In the top and bottom of the table clashes we had 2 very close games. So close in fact that both games were peeled. In the bottom of the table clash the score swung backwards and forwards with the game finishing 7 shots apiece. In the top of the table clash the game also swung both ways and finished 5 shots each.
The table is therefore unchanged with the final matches being played on Tuesday 20th December at 6pm at Braehead. Henderson's "Hotshots" look to be favourite to take the title but a 24 shot win or greater by Sloan's "Sliders" would secure the title for Deakin's "Destroyers" on shot difference.

Cameron Medal resumes - 29th November
We are now in the final stages of the Cameron and Teams 2, 3, 4 amd 5 met at Braehead on Tuesday 29th November.
In the match of the Hendersons - Andrew v John it turned out to be a one sided affair with John's Hotshots running out winners 10 shots to 1 over Andrew's Hogliners.
In the other match Wintersgill's Warriors yet again proved to be too good for Deakin's Destroyers with an 11 shots to 6 victory.
These results propel Henderson's Hotshots to top place on shots with a game in hand over second place Deakin's Destroyers.
Here is the table after these results.

Cameron Medal at 9 November
Deakin's Destroyers take a 2 point lead into the mid-season break because of the European Curling Championship being played at Braehead from 19 - 26 November. However, Henderson's Hotshots, who are 2 points behind, have a game in hand. The bottom of the table is quite tight with only 1 point separating 3 rinks: Wintersgill's Warriors, Sloan's Sliders and Henderson's Hogliners.

Cameron Medal Reaches halfway Stage
All teams having played 4 games we have now reached the halfway stage and 2 teams are tied on 6 points. J. Henderson's "Hotshots" are 6 shots clear on shots difference from Deakin's "Destroyers" with Wintersgill's "Warriors" 2 points behind. Last year's winner A Henderson's "Hogliners" are 1 point behind them on 3 points with Sloan's "Sliders" bringing up the rear. All to play for in the 2nd half.
Cameron Medal Latest
In the 4th round of the Cameron Deakin's 'Destroyers' were pitted against J Henderson's 'Hotshots' with Gordon's rink coming out 11 shots to 3 ahead. In the bottom of the table clash honours were shared and the match peeled 4 shots apiece. The table follows.
Cameron League Hots Up
In the third series of matches played on Tuesday 27th of September we were struggling to get 4 teams out. However after a valiant effort we managed to rustle up 11 players and with a guest appearance from Tommy Cuthbertson of XX Club we had 12 players. 2 games of 3 aside were possible. However, some poor timekeeping from 3 players almost scuppered things. And so after some confusion and a false start 4 games took place. More big scores with Wintersgill's rink beating Sloan's by 9 shots to 3 and Deakin's rink beating Andrew Henderson's rink 13 shots to 3. The league table has now split in 2 with 3 teams on 4 points and 2 yet to score.
Early Cameron Medal League Positions - 2016
With only 2 nights curling having taken place there is a long way to go. However, there have been some high scoring games with large margins of victory - do I detect a certain rustiness in many curlers? This could make for a very interesting season.
Stuart Trophy - Final Games (2)
In the final league games of the season Rink 5 (A Henderson) skipped by Gordon Anderson overcame Rink 3 (Sloan) by 6 shots to 4. A tight game with it being all square through 5 ends. Rink 5 won ends 6 & 7 by 1 shot to win. Sadly, Rink 5 couldn't overcome the 20 shots they needed to win the trophy but ended up level on points with Rink 6 (Deakin).
In the battle for the wooden spoon it was another tight game through 4 ends (3 shots apiece) but in the last 3 ends Rink 2 (Cockburn) beat Rink 4 (Wintersgill) by 5 shots to 2 winning 8 shots to 5 overall. The winning margin was enough to elevate Rink 2 above Rink 1 (McMillan).
An interesting and competitive Stuart Trophy. Congratulations to Gordon Deakin, George Leslie, Gib Steele and Andy Whyte.

Stuart Trophy - Final Games
In the first of the final games Rink 6 (Deakin) overcame Rink 1 (McMillan) by 15 shots to 1. It seemed nothing could go right for Nigel and his team - I certainly would not be wasting my money on a lottery ticket if I was one of them - luck was certainly not with them this evening.
A win next week for Alan Henderson's Rink would see them equal on points with Gordon Deakin's Rink but to top the table they need to win by 20 shots. However, a win for Alan's Rink would see them leap frog Andrew to take 2nd place.
After tonight's game the table is as follows:

Cameron Medal Standings after Round 9 of 10
With only 1 week left in the Cameron Medal, Andrew Henderson's rink were crowned champions with an unassailable 12 points. They beat Rink 1, skipped by Alistair Cockburn, 10 shots to 3. The battle for the wooden spoon will however go down to the final games. If Rink 5, skipped by Graham Wintersgill, can avoid a defeat they will avoid propping up the table - that ignominy going to Alan Sloan's rink 4. Alan made a welcome return to Pollok curling tonight in his rink's final match in this competition. It was good to see him back after his enforced layoff.
