Twelve Pollok Curling Club golfers assembled at Pollok Golf Club on Wednesday 16th August to compete for the Pickwell Trophy. The pre-match banter over a soup & sandwich lunch was excellent, as were the post match drinks and high-tea. Unfortunately the main event, our competition for the Pickwell Trophy, was played in persistent rain and as the first game was playing the 7th hole a communal decision was taken to proceed to the 16th and reduce the competition to 10 holes. "Murphy's law" then kicked in and 10 minutes later it stopped raining - "Lucky white heather". The weather convener, somebody called Fish, has been sacked!
And so to the prizegiving: -
Pickwell Trophy. - Winner - Ian Taylor 21 points.
2nd - John Henderson 19 pts (Best last 3)
3rd - Douglas Mack - 19 pts.
Team Challenge - Lindsay Dempster, Alan Sloan, Gordon Anderson - 44 pts.
Nearest hole 6th - Alastair Robertson.
Nearest hole 17th - John Henderson.
Ian collected the Pickwell Trophy and a sleeve of Pollok balls. He then opened a bar tab on his Pollok card and declared "Open season" - several brandies, ports, malts and a couple of bottles of Bollinger then followed - thanks Ian - very generous!
All other winners received a load of balls other than VP Ali Robertson who won an all inclusive two week holiday to Barbados for a jammy shot to the 6th that pipped Douglas Mack for this fabulous prize!
Thanks to - Pollok staff - always top class. President Brian for sponsoring the wine. Richard Morris for contribution to prizes.
A good, fun day - despite the "Scotch Mist".
Alastair Robertson. VP.
